Why Chelsea are yet to complete a deal for Timo Werner

Comments

Chelsea will wait until the end of the Bundesliga season or until quarantine measures are changed in the Uk before completing a deal for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.

The Blues are set to sign the German for a fee of around £53m and they have to activate a release clause in Werner's contract by June 15th in order to do so.

Leipzig director Oliver Mintzaff caused panic among Chelsea supportess on the weekend when he suggested that there had been no dialogue between the two clubs.

However, discussions are not necessary as Chelsea need only to activate Werner's release clause but given the simplicity of the deal. Many suppprtsrs have questioned why it has not yet been announced.

The German forward can't currently travel to the UK due to the conditions that Bundesliga players have agreed to under the terms of the league's restart, while Chelsea cannot send team doctors to Germany due to Quarantine rules on return to London.

According to the Athletic, the Blues could use German documents in the meantime to complete the deal but it's suggested they're more likely to wait until the end of the Bundesliga season on June 27th to finally make the announcement.
